FAQ
What is the best anal toy for beginners?
A small butt plug with a flared base, or a graduated trainer set. Plugs are designed to stay in place without thrusting, which makes them the easiest way to get comfortable. Choose silicone, glass or stainless steel so the toy is easy to clean.
Why does an anal toy need a flared base?
The rectum can draw objects inward. A flared base or handle keeps the toy from slipping all the way in. Never use anything in your bottom that wasn't designed for anal play, and never use a toy without a base.
How much lube do I need for anal play?
More than you think. Apply a generous amount to the toy and the outside of the anus, and reapply whenever things start to feel dry. A thicker water-based anal lube lasts longer and is safe with silicone toys.
Should I use a numbing lube for my first time?
We don't recommend numbing or desensitizing products for beginners. Mild discomfort is your body's way of telling you to slow down, add lube or stop. Numbing that signal makes it easier to go too far, too fast. Relaxation, patience and plenty of lube work better.
Does anal play hurt?
It shouldn't. A feeling of pressure or fullness is normal at first; sharp pain is not. If something hurts, stop. Breathe slowly, relax your muscles, start smaller and try again another day.
How do I prepare and clean up?
A bathroom visit and a quick shower beforehand is usually all you need. Keep wipes and a towel nearby. After play, wash the toy with warm water and mild soap or toy cleaner. Never move a toy from anal to vaginal use without washing it first, or use a fresh condom over it.
Is anal play only for men?
Not at all. People of every gender and body type enjoy anal play. For people with a prostate, gentle internal pressure can feel especially good, and kits like the Intro To Prostate Kit are designed with that in mind.
Can I use an anal toy with a partner?
Yes, and a plug worn during sex is a popular first step together. App-controlled plugs like the Lovense Hush 2 let a partner control the vibration. Talk first, agree on a stop word, and let the person receiving set the pace. Find more ideas in First Toy for Couples.
